Basically, William Vanderbilt told Lt. Gorringe that he’s hiring him to bring the obelisk/wiener to America, set up and then he’ll pay. No completion, no pay. I’m shocked Gorringe didn’t die in the effort to get that horrible monstrosity to America.

Short 8 minutes and I feel like I picked the best part of this video: “Sunday at the Met, Cleopatra’s Needle” This is mostly info on the struggles of Lt. Gorringe transporting this Egyptian artifact with they call a phallic symbol aka a wiener, to New York city. They really had to guard it because people or the crowd were trying to get near it with chisels to chip off pieces of it to sell. The people were just as lawless back then as they are now.

The speaker on this part of the clip stated that in order to travel on the seas you had to have a flag from your country. Since Lt. Gorringe was in Egypt and didn’t have an American flag, he opted to sail without a flag. The rules on the ocean were if you didn’t have a flag then you were probably a pirate and your boat and contents could be captured and taken.

The speaker in the video said that Lt. Gorringe was too proud of a patriot to fly with an Egyptian flag. Listen to how crazy that sounds; too proud to fly with an Egyptian flag, but risked his life and his crews lives transporting this 500 ton granite obelisk to bring to America. He should have sailed with the Egyptian flag and then removed it when he got to his neighborhood harbor.

I’m sure that Lt. Gorringe knew that he could throw up his secret society hand signs if he had encountered anyone trying to take his cargo or he could display a gun. Lt. Gorringe thanks so much your blood, sweat and tears to bring that pagan object to this land. We owe you a debt of ungratefulness.
